TSV, spreadsheets and JSON
TSV (tab-separated values) is CSV with tabs instead of commas. It is what Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers put on the clipboard when you copy cells, so it is the quickest way to get spreadsheet data into code. Because commas are common in real data and tabs are not, TSV also avoids most quoting problems.
Values that contain a tab, a line break or a double quote are wrapped in double quotes in the TSV output, the same way Excel copies them, so they stay in one cell when pasted back.
Header row as keys
Each column's first cell names the key. An empty header becomes column1, column2 and so on.
Careful type conversion
42 becomes a number and true a boolean, but 007, long IDs over 15 digits and +44 stay text so nothing is lost.
All keys collected
JSON to TSV uses every key found in any object, in the order first seen, and leaves gaps empty.
Nested values
Objects and arrays inside a value are written as JSON text in the cell.
