Change the CSV Delimiter
A CSV that opens in a single Excel column usually has the wrong separator for your region. Convert it between comma, semicolon, tab and pipe, with commas inside quoted values left alone.

How It Works
Swap the separator in three steps.
Paste the data
From a CSV file opened in a text editor, or copied from anywhere.
Choose the separators
The current one is detected automatically; pick the one you need.
Copy or download
Save the converted file and open it in your spreadsheet.
Why CSV files use different delimiters
"Comma-separated" is not universal. In countries that write decimals with a comma, such as Germany, France, Brazil and Indonesia, Excel saves and expects CSV files separated by semicolons, so a comma CSV opens with every row in column A. Tabs are used by spreadsheets on the clipboard and pipes by some databases. A find-and-replace on the separator breaks any value that contains it; this converter parses the file first, so "Silva, Ana" stays one value.
Blank lines are removed in the conversion. If the file has a title row above the real header, delete it first so the column count is consistent.
Detects the separator
Counts commas, semicolons, tabs and pipes outside quotes in the first lines and picks the most frequent.
Quoting fixed for the target
Values are quoted only when they contain the new separator, a quote or a line break.
Multi-line values kept
A quoted value that spans several lines stays one value.
Matching extension
Downloads as .csv for comma and semicolon, .tsv for tab.

You do not need to know the current separator.
Private
Your data is converted in the browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Questions people ask about the Delimiter Converter.
Excel uses the list separator from your system's regional settings. If that is a semicolon and the file uses commas (or the reverse), every row lands in column A. Convert the file to the separator your Excel expects.
No. Values in double quotes are read as one value, whatever they contain, and quoted again in the output when needed.
Comma for most software and English-language systems, semicolon for Excel in regions that use a decimal comma, and tab when the data itself contains many commas and semicolons.
No. Only the separators and the quoting change. Numbers, dates and text are written back exactly as they were read.
