How It Works
Replace text in three steps.

Type the word or pattern and what it should become. Leave Replace with empty to delete it.

The count shows how many replacements were made. Copy the result or keep editing it.
Find and replace, with and without regex
In plain mode the text you type is searched for literally, so dots, brackets and dollar signs mean themselves. Tick Regular expression to search for patterns instead: \d+ for any number, ^ for the start of a line, (\w+)@ for the name part of an email. In regex mode the replacement can reuse what was matched, with $1 for the first group or $<name> for a named one, which is how you turn 2025-01-31 into 31/01/2025 in one step.
Plain mode puts your replacement in exactly as typed. A "$1" in the Replace with box only means a captured group when Regular expression is ticked.
Match case
Off by default, so "apple" also finds "Apple". Tick it to replace only the exact capitalisation.
Whole words only
Finds "cat" but not "concat" or "cats". Accented letters count as letters, so "café" is not matched inside "cafés".
JavaScript regex
Patterns use your browser's JavaScript engine, with Unicode support, so \p{L} matches any letter.
Chain edits
Use result as text moves the output back into the text box so you can run another replacement on it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions people ask about the Find and Replace tool.
Type the word in Find and leave Replace with empty. Every match is removed. Tick Whole words only so parts of longer words are left alone.
Tick Regular expression and search for \n. Replace with a space to join lines, or with , to make a comma-separated list.
Either Regular expression is not ticked, or the pattern has no group in brackets. $1 refers to the first (…) group in the pattern.
Your original text stays in the Text box until you press Use result as text, so you can change the settings and try again. After that, use your browser's undo (Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z) in the text box.
