About

What you get from text to PDF

The PDF contains real text, not a picture of it, so it can be searched, selected and read by screen readers, and it stays small. Lines that are too long for the page wrap at word boundaries, a new page starts when one is full, and optional page numbers ("2 / 5") are centred at the bottom. Courier keeps every character the same width, which suits code, logs and tables made with spaces.

Curly quotes, dashes and ellipses are converted to their plain equivalents, and € is written as EUR. For Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Asian scripts or emoji, use a word processor's Save as PDF instead, which can embed a font that has those characters.

Three standard fonts

Helvetica, Times and Courier are built into every PDF reader, so nothing is embedded.

A4 or US Letter

Portrait or landscape, with narrow, normal or wide margins.

Page numbers

Optional numbering in the footer of every page.

Character set

The built-in fonts cover Western European letters only; other scripts are flagged before you create the file.
