About

Where does lorem ipsum come from?

Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin taken from Cicero's "De finibus bonorum et malorum", written in 45 BC. Typesetters and designers use it as filler because it has the rhythm of real text without distracting the reader with meaning. Designers still use it to judge line length, spacing and how a layout handles paragraphs of different sizes.

Placeholder text hides real content problems. Replace it with real copy before a design is signed off, because real headlines are rarely the length of the filler.

Varied lengths

Paragraphs have 4 to 7 sentences and sentences 6 to 14 words, so blocks do not all look the same.

Classic opening

Starts with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit" unless you untick it.

HTML option

Wraps each paragraph in <p> tags, ready to paste into a template.

Exact word counts

Words mode gives exactly the number you ask for, useful for testing a field limit.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions people ask about the Lorem Ipsum Generator.

Partly. It comes from a real Latin text by Cicero, but words were cut and rearranged, so it does not read as proper Latin.
