About

Why time zones need a date

The offset from UTC is not fixed for most places. New York is 5 hours behind UTC in winter and 4 in summer, and countries change their clocks on different dates, so the gap between two cities can change for a few weeks each year. The converter uses the date you pick and the IANA time zone database built into your browser, the same data your phone and computer use to set their clocks.

Zones are named after a city in the region (Europe/Paris, not CET) because a city name records the full history of that place's clock changes.

Every time zone

All IANA zones, from America/Los_Angeles to Asia/Kathmandu (UTC+05:45).

Daylight saving

Offsets come from the chosen date, not from today.

Missing hours flagged

When the clocks jump forward, the skipped hour does not exist; the tool tells you instead of guessing.

Your own list

Add the cities you work with and remove the rest.
