To split a PDF, open the Split PDF tool, add your file, click the pages you want and choose how to save them. You can get one PDF for each selected page, delivered as a ZIP, or a single PDF that contains just those pages.
Everything happens in your browser, and the original file is never changed.

Key takeaways
- Upload one PDF at a time, up to 100 MB.
- All pages are selected at first. Click pages to deselect them, or use select all and clear.
- Output mode One file per page gives a ZIP of single-page PDFs; Single PDF merges the chosen pages.
- Outputs are named after your file, for example report-page-3.pdf, report-split.zip or report-extracted.pdf.
How to split a PDF in three steps
- 1
Add your PDF. Open Split PDF and drop in the file. A preview of every page appears.
- 2
Select pages and choose the output. Every page starts selected. Click a page to deselect it, or use clear and select all. Choose One file per page or Single PDF at the top.
- 3
Download. The button shows what you will get. Several pages as separate files arrive as a ZIP, one page as a plain PDF.
The two output modes
| Mode | Result | File names |
|---|---|---|
| One file per page | A separate PDF for each selected page in a ZIP | name-page-1.pdf, name-page-2.pdf, name-split.zip |
| Single PDF | One new PDF with the selected pages in order | name-extracted.pdf |
Which mode suits which job is covered in one file per page or one extract.
Typical jobs
- Separate a batch of invoices scanned into one file: choose One file per page.
- Pull out a chapter: deselect everything except pages 12 to 20 and choose Single PDF.
- Remove pages by splitting: keep only the pages you need in Single PDF mode, or use Remove Pages.
Your original stays untouched
Splitting makes new files from copies of the pages. The original on your device is not modified, and nothing is uploaded. Because pages are copied as they are, text stays selectable and quality does not change.
Page ranges instead of clicking
For a long document where typing is faster than clicking, Extract Pages accepts ranges such as 1-3, 7, 12-. See PDF page range syntax explained. To join the pieces again, use Merge PDF.
Tips for choosing pages
- Start by clearing the selection when you need only a few pages, then click the ones you want.
- Leave everything selected and untick a few pages when you want most of the document.
- Check page numbers in the preview, not in the document's printed numbers, since a cover page can shift them.
- Pick One file per page if each page will go to a different person or folder.
File sizes after splitting
Each new file contains only its own pages, so it is smaller than the original. Shared resources such as fonts are copied into every part, which means that ten single-page files can add up to more than the original. If the total matters, use Single PDF, or compress the parts afterwards with Compress PDF.
